Vitamins
Vitamins are substances that are needed for the human body to work correctly. Vitamins are found in foods we eat. There are many types of vitamins and each one plays a special role in the growth of human body. For example:
Vitamin D is found in milk. It helps in the development of bones.
Vitamin A is found in carrots. It makes eyes healthier.
Vitamin C is found in oranges. It helps body heal if you get a cut.
Vitamin B is found in leafy green vegetables. It helps the body make protein and energy.
There are two types of vitamins:
fat soluble
water soluble
Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the fat tissues in your body and in your liver. They wait around in your body fat until your body needs them. They are not needed every day in the diet. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are all fat-soluble vitamins.
Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and are not stored; they are eliminated in urine. We need a continuous supply of them in our diets. The water-soluble vitamins are the Vitamin B and vitamin C.
