US Health Care Ranks Poorly Compared to Other Rich Nations
British researchers say more than 100,000 Americans died of health problems that could have been prevented by timely and effective health care last year.
A new study by Ellen Nolte and Martin McKee of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine ranks the United States last among 19 developed nations in terms of health care.
France, Japan and Australia topped the list.
The researchers theorize that the 47 million Americans who are not covered by health insurance are slow to seek care and a key reason for the United States' poor showing in the study.
All of the nations on the list have been making improvements in health care, but the United States has been getting better more slowly than other developed countries. |

India's Tata Motors Set to Unveil World's Cheapest Car
India's Tata Motors is expected to unveil the world's cheapest car on Thursday.
The new vehicle is expected to cost about $2,500.
A news report says the company worked to keep costs down by keeping the vehicle small, light and as simple as possible.
The report says the car has one windshield wiper instead of two, and no frills such as radios or power steering. Much of the vehicle is expected to be made of plastic.
Only about eight Indians out of every 1,000 now own a car, so there may be a large market for the vehicle in the nation's fast-growing economy. |
