Brain Surgery: It Really Is Brain Surgery
Everything changes after the surgeons open your skull. Your brain, and the tumor inside it, no longer fully float in their protective bath of cerebrospinal fluid. Gravity comes into play, as does the atmospheric pressure of the operating theater. The brain responds to these foreign forces, the cerebral tissue sagging, rebounding and changing shape. The tumor that the neurosurgeons want to remove also has changed position. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) image taken before surgery is no longer accurate enough for brain surgery.
Therefore, the brain the surgeon operates on is a different shape from the one depicted in the MRI image. Of course, once the surgeon begins work, the shape of the brain changes even more.
The brain's changing shape is a problem not only of space, but of time. The goal is to remove as much as possible of the tumor and none of the healthy neural tissue. Today's operating procedure is to keep track of the brain's movement by conducting MRI scans during surgery. MRI is a labor-intensive and painstaking process that takes time. Processing each MRI scanning during surgery can put the surgery on hold for as long as 90 minutes.
Scientists are working on a new solution, modeling the brain. How can they do that? A team of scientists provides the surgical team with a dynamic computer model of the patient's brain. The team of scientists can render a new model in six or seven minutes, and they hopes to be able to do so in under two minutes. |

Rugby
Rugby is a football like sport. It is often referred as just "rugby". Rugby league, rugby union, American football and Canadian football are modern sports that originated from original rugby football. Only the rugby league and rugby union are referred to as "rugby" in the modern world. The earliest known place where rugby was played is Rugby School in England, United Kingdom.
Scoring in both games, rugby league and rugby union, is achieved by either a try or a goal. A try involves touching the ball to the ground over the goal line at the opponent's end of the field. A goal results from kicking the ball over the crossbar between the upright goal posts. The primary difference between rugby league and rugby union is that a rugby league team has 13 players and rugby union team has 15 players.
Countries where rugby league is played are Australia, South Africa, France, Great Britain and New Zealand. Rugby league is played both as a professional and amateur level. There are semi-professional and amateur competitions of rugby league, which take place in Russia, Serbia, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Japan, Canada, the United States, Fiji, Cook Islands and Tonga.
Rugby union, the other rugby football, is played mostly in France, Australia, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Wales, Argentina, Italy, and Scotland. Like rugby league, rugby union is also a professional and amateur game.
